Terrace Downtown Improvement Area

2026 FACADE IMPROVEMENTS GRANT APPLICATION

The Business Facade Improvement Program (BFI) provides reimbursement funding for exterior improvements to commercial buildings and storefronts within the Terrace Downtown Improvement Area (TDIA) boundary.


Important: This funding is administered by the City of Terrace and Northern Development Initiative Trust (NDIT).


TDIA supports downtown members and businesses to access the funds and receives/forwards completed applications through the program process.

BEFORE YOU APPLY

Please read

  • This is a reimbursement program. Successful applicants must pay all costs up front. Reimbursement is provided after the project is complete and required documentation is submitted, including proof of payment.

  • Reimbursement timing: Reimbursements for approved 2026 projects are expected to be issued in January 2027.

  • Do not start work before approval. Projects already in progress are not eligible.

  • Permits/approvals must be in place through the City of Terrace before work begins (building, development, signage, etc., as applicable).


Application deadline: May 8, 2026

Applications received before the deadline will receive priority. If funds are not fully allocated, we may accept subsequent applications on a first-come, first-served basis until funds have been fully allocated.

Eligibility highlights

  • Applicants must be a property owner or business owner within the Terrace Downtown Improvement Area (TDIA).

  • Tenants must have written approval from the property owner (Property Owner Consent Form required).

  • The building must be commercially zoned with a storefront visible from the public right-of-way.

  • Minimum total project cost of $2,000 to qualify.

  • Approved projects must be completed by December 31, 2026.

  • Previous grant recipients are not eligible to reapply for the same project (a different project on the same building may be eligible).

Please describe the work to be completed in enough detail for review (include materials/colours, lighting, signage details, drawings/mockups, and “before” photos where possible). We encourage both major renovations and smaller projects like exterior painting and sign renewal.

By submitting this application, I confirm that:

  1. I have read and agree to the program terms and understand that funding is administered by the City of Terrace and NDIT, and TDIA supports applicants and receives/forwards completed applications through the program process.

  2. I understand this is a reimbursement program and I am responsible for paying all project costs up front. Reimbursement is provided only after the project is complete and required documentation is submitted (including invoices/receipts and proof of payment).

  3. I confirm that no work has started prior to approval and I will not begin work until approvals are in place.

  4. I assume responsibility for obtaining required permits, inspections, and contractors through the City of Terrace (as applicable) before work begins.

  5. I understand submission of this application is not a guarantee of funding and that applications are subject to review.

  6. If approved, I agree to provide required close-out materials (e.g., invoices/receipts, proof of payment, before-and-after photos, inspection sign-off if applicable, and any required reporting items).

  7. I grant permission for TDIA, the City of Terrace, and NDIT to use before-and-after photos, project descriptions, and other relevant information for promotional purposes related to the program.
